What is GPON?
GPON or Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network is a telecommunications technology that uses Optical Fiber to reach the subscriber.
It is the standard adopted by the great majority of the Operators (Movistar, Claro, etc.), thanks to which hundreds of millions of households enjoy the major advantages provided by having optical fiber, which is known as FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home).
In its ongoing process of innovation, SAMPOL Digital has introduced this technology and its associated services into the world of Hotels and Hospitals, which by analogy is now known as RETiA FTTR (Fiber To The Room). We are talking about the very latest in telecommunications access technology based on optical fiber to make IP services (Internet, TV, telephone systems, @IP, Internet of Things, etc.) reach hotel/hospital rooms. Now, with optical fiber and utilising GPON technology, everything is much simpler, because it is based on point-to-multipoint architecture, i.e., one single transmission point to multiple reception points, which could be each and every one of the rooms in a hotel/hospital.
